Ramleela in Om Shakti!

The story of the Ramayana is a very riveting tale in which you can learn a lot from. It is full of happiness, sadness, morals, and priceless values.
This year, Members of Om Shakti decided to host it’s first Ramleela Play! Guided by our spiritual leader, Pt. Balram Persad, with the help of Pt. Vasistha Persad and others, we were able to do this long story in one night, unlike its traditional several night running time.

Our temple members participated from the youngest to the not-so-young age group. Devotees learned acting, speech & timing skills in the process of doing this tedious play. They came out in their numbers every Saturday for one month, which is a short span to do this celebrated story, and stuck with it day after day.

Then it was show time. The set was built & props (made by Viresh), donated and improvised to make this event spectacular!
With the help of the adult members, the young actors of Om Shakti were outfitted with costumes, make-up and props behind the scenes. It was a busy and exciting night.
Devotees and non-devotees of Om Shakti, far and wide came to view this event. In the end the actors, though exhausted, all got their 5 minutes of fame. Praises came in from all sides after the show. It was truly a remarkable experience, that would only get better the next time.

Here are some images of the event, from pre-production, to the glamour of the final night.

Summer Camp 2009

Om Shakti hosted it’s first 3-day Summer day camp this year! We know, “Summer” in Trinidad? But it’s the term we stole from the Americans over some time and now use it to depict the time of the year, mainly June – August.
The youths of Om Shakti were off from school, so what better to do than spend time in their temple participating in self-growth activities and games?
The camp commenced on the 6th of July, 9AM to 2PM, and closed on the 8th of July, a short space of time, but nothing short of fun and learning!

Participating members were introduced to Havan & Yoga, they learnt Music, Art & Crafts, Balloon crafting and played recreational games like cricket, musical chairs and other fun activities which never had a boring moment. In the end they learnt a most important aspect of life known as Sewa, by which they cleaned their surroundings, which they used over the 3 days.
Guest speakers were brought in to educated the youngsters and adults alike. It took the great effort of the adult members to host this first time event at Om Shakti, and we are very thankful for their persevering efforts.
Participating youths were awarded Om Shakti Certificates for attending over the 3 day period at our weekly service on Thursdays, which is a complement to their record.

Children are the future, and we must find constructive avenues for them. Om Shakti hosts it’s weekly classes every Saturday, open to the public at 2PM -4PM. A mere two(2) hours out of a 168 hour week at your convenience. We enjoy our classes so much, we had to take the opportunity of the School Holidays to host the youngsters during that period. We look forward to even a better 2nd annual Summer Day camp, with more activities and a longer period. We would love to see you there!

Here are just a few of the images of the camp and the rest are available on Picasa.
